This all started because my wife wanted a bench for our house and we didn't have much furniture. We started building this bench and I honestly just wanted to get the project done, but once we stained it and started sealing it with polyurethane, I was instantly hooked on woodworking. Seeing the final product and realizing I could create such a piece of art and functional piece of woodwork was an amazing feeling. The rest is history as they say.

At The Artistic Lumberjack, we specialize in crafting custom pieces. My wife and I work together—she handles a lot of the staining and finishing, while I focus on building. We have never created the same piece twice. Although some projects may share similarities, each one has it's own unique characteristics. We love exploring new designs and, while we might replicate a piece in the future, every creation remains a unique expression of our craftsmanship.
At The Artistic Lumberjack, we enjoy working with exotic hardwoods from all over the world and domestic hardwoods. I have felled my own domestic hardwood trees, like Oak and Black Ash, milled them, and let them air dry for around 2-3 years before working with them.
We like to expand our horizons and constantly learn new ways of doing things, even if those ways are generations old. I enjoy working with hand tools, sharpening them by hand, and appreciating the hard, old-fashioned way of doing this trade and art. While we embrace modern technology, we always seize the opportunity to use a hand plane or a cabinet scraper when we can.
Part of the name The Artistic Lumberjack refers to my hobby of using a chainsaw on my family's hobby farm to clear trails for deer hunting and to enjoy the outdoors. Operating a chainsaw quickly became a necessity and a great workout.
If someone happens to see a piece of artwork or furniture we've done, or something else and would like us to create it for them, we would be happy to fulfill that request. We just ask for a few details and then get to work creating what they are after. Sometimes it involves refurbishing a family heirloom, and we are happy to take that on too. From new builds to refurbishments, working with exotics or domestic hardwoods, we do it all at The Artistic Lumberjack!
